Haitian Hope Happenings: News and Notes

December 2009

  • Father (Pere) Michaud’s visit has brought new life and energy to Haitian Hope.  For this and for your continued and heart-felt support, we are exceedingly grateful.
  • 300 recorders and 100 harmonicas were sent to the children at St. Marc’s as Christmas presents.  Pere Michaud says, “Merci.”  Thanks go to Susan Locke and Myrl Trimble who designed the display and shipped the instruments.  Thanks go to all of you who helped pay the costs.
  • The “Goat Man,” Brant Frost, quickly received enough money to pay for 22 goats for some local families in Trouin.  Your response has been incredible!  And, Father Caron from St. Stephen’s in Milledgeville has promised even more money for the project.  The goat man has also expanded his search for goat money to his son Ben’s group of friends in Marietta.  We will send the money incrementally beginning in January!
  • The Thanksgiving coverlet, created by Char Collens, was raffled off on Sunday, November 22nd.  The lucky winner was Mary Hinson.  Look for more of Char’s creations in the spring.
  • The traditional alternative Christmas opportunity is available to all of you, beginning Sunday, November 29th (Advent I).  Look for the new Haitian Hope Christmas tree bearing cards for various items to “purchase” for the mission: shoes, uniforms, teachers’ salaries, and packets of rice and beans.  Thanks goes to Gail Moulton, who assembled this tree as an opportunity for us to give a meaningful gift to someone and support the mission at the same time.
  • St. Stephen’s, Milledgeville sent Haitian Hope $100 from their coffee project.  Thank you, St. Stephen’s.
  • The only Shamrock night in December will be on the 9th.
  • The next Haitian Hope meeting will be Sunday, December 13th at 1:30 in the library.  Bring those budgets!
