Item 1. Opening prayer - Fr. Chad
Item 2. Report of the Treasurer (attached)
The Haiti Emergency Relief Restricted Fund will be spent by the end of the year and is now down to $12,000.00. Consequently, our interest income is less. Pledges are where they should be for this time of year.
Item 3. Vestry Formation Delayed by storm.
Welcome to our newly and festively ordained Deacon, Barbara Windom!
Item 4. Report of the Rector
The youth, accompanied by Dena & Jason Hobbs, youth leaders and Robert Jimmison and Maggie Webb, traveled to McIntoshCounty and spent a weekend in service and play.
The container with the school parts has arrived in Haiti and is ready for construction.
The Hospitality Team and Buildings & Grounds have transformed the entryway to the Parish Hall – Thank you Cathy Dillard, Ginny Atkins, Kaarina Powers and Alton Attaway!
Our reception yesterday for Barbara was great. Thank you Lynn King and Derek Stokes!
Our outdoor patio furniture has been painted – Thank you Katherine Kane and Beverly Soles.
Ben Wells’ ordination is Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Bartholomew in Atlanta. We wanted to have it here at St. Francis, but the logistics of room and parking were too great to overcome. Have arranged for a motor coach to transport everyone who would like to Atlanta. St Francis will lead in the liturgy and share the responsibilities for flowers and the reception with St. Barts. Those interested should sign up for the bus, which will leave at 9 am. Ben’s start date is August 22 and his first Sunday with us is August 28th. We need to think about an ordination gift. Counters will be relocated to the choir room so that Ben can have Dan’s former office.
Day One Radio Program has invited Fr. Chad to present a Sermon – it will air sometime on the Second Sunday in Easter.
Fr. Chad will be attending:
The Alumni Convocation & Lecture Series at the Seminary of the Southwest September 19-21. The lecturer will be Br. Curtis Almquist of the Society of St. John the Evangelist.
Diocesan Presbyters Conference September 26-28.
The Gathering of Leaders in North Carolina Oct 17-19.
Youth Sunday is August 21, with the youth taking rolls at 8:45 and 11:00. Allison Hinson will preach.
Angel Vazquez is giving a lecture, ‘My 56 Years in Practicing Medicine” at the MedicalCenter in the PeytonAndersonHealthCenter this week.
5. Information Sharing Minutes
Motion: to approve the minutes of the June Vestry meeting with the correction of Angel Vazquez’ name.
By: Barry Jenkins Second: Lynne King Carried
Update on Diocesan Bishop Search Process
The Process looks something like this:
Screening
Gathering of an interest pool - about a dozen
Weekend at Calloway
The top 3-4 candidates do a walk-about through the Diocese
Vote – June 2012
Update on Strategic Planning Process
Sub committees are being formed.
Next meeting of the SPC is scheduled for October
6. Discussion
Parental Leave Policy – Distribution of the proposed Parental Leave Policy developed by the Diocesan Task Force chaired by Joseph Shippen. The Vestry should consider it and then we will amend if needed and pass at the next vestry meeting in September.
Nominating Committee
Jim Atkins will not be running again as he will lead the Adult Christian Formation Team. Ann O’Neal will let her name stand for election and thus, is ineligible to serve on the Nominating Committee. We need 3 at-large members beside Elizabeth Dunn, Cathy Dillard and Jim Atkins. Candidates will be solicited at the 8:45 service by Elizabeth Dunn, at the 11:00 by Cathy and Jim. Fr. Chad will send an e-mail with candidates for the vestry to vote on, Fr. Chad will tabulate the top 4. Elizabeth and Cathy will co-chair the nominating committee.
Diocesan Council Delegates
Motion: to appoint Ann O’Neal as Fourth Delegate to the Diocesan Council, joining Elizabeth Dunn, David Sexton, and Tammy Pallot.
By: Dale Mann Second: Barry Jenkins Carried
We have a fourth delegate because we have increased above 400 members. The council will meet in November and then be reconvened for a special meeting June 2012 for the election of the new Bishop.
Diocesan Assessment Response
Canonically we are required to send the Diocese 10% of the average of the past 3 years operating income. Last year from our abundance we gave 11%. As our budget will be leaner in 2012 with the restoration of the second full-time staff position, Fr. Chad suggested that we return to the expected 10% pending the outcome of the Stewardship Campaign.
Motion: to give the Diocese our “fair share” of 10% in 2012.
By: Lynne King Second: Gail Ford 1 Nay, Motion Carried
8. Prayer
The Rev. Barbara Windom closed the meeting with prayer.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:31 pm. The candles were extinguished.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane C. Salter
Clerk of the Vestry
